boundaries and the internet
Last night in class, our professor was talking about boundaries and how, since the advent of the Internet, boundaries have become more and more blurred. Now, you can find out anything and almost everything about anyone online. My classmates and I all looked at each other like, “Whoa…that’s pretty scary” and then we started to Google ourselves.
As a student therapist, it would be really weird to have my clients Google me, especially since many of us are on Facebook, MySpace or some other social networking forum. That’s why I generally don’t provide my full name and we certainly do not give out our cell phone number (I think the rules are a bit different in private practice, because some of my professors do).
In our research class, one student was saying how people can now have easier access to certain assessments, in an attempt to “beat” or “crack” psychological assessments. That’s pretty crazy too, but even if you knew how to take something doesn’t necessarily mean you know how to interpret the results.
